The Department of City Planning will be hosting a series of open house-style Regional Forums in March and April. You are invited to stop by anytime during the event to learn about some of the most exciting and current planning initiatives and to share your ideas!

The attached flyer includes the date and location details.

The open house will feature information about the following:

The Plan for a Healthy Los Angeles, the General Plan’s new Health and Wellness Element, which lays a policy framework to make Los Angeles a healthier place to live, work and play.
re:code LA, a five-year effort to comprehensively update the zoning code and develop an interactive web code format.

• Planning activities for middle- and high-school aged youth to foster civic engagement and greater understanding about urban planning.
• Other planning initiatives local to the event location.

At each Planning Forum, the Plan for a Healthy Los Angeles and Mobility Plan 2035 will be hosting a Public Hearing. Drop in anytime during the event and submit your written or verbal comments for the record and for consideration by staff.

Meet With The Mayor! Garcetti’s South Los Angeles Budget Meeting – Thursday, 1/23 @ 6PM

If you live, work, or participate in the Mid-City NC area, please join us for a meeting with Mayor Eric Garcetti, regarding how funds are being spent and how future funds will be allocated in our neighborhood.

• Want more parks?
• Feel that our roads are in poor shape?
• Is crime an issue?
• How are businesses welcomed into the area?

All of these things and more are affected by how the city chooses to spend its money in our area. This is your chance to have your voice heard – let the City know what’s most important to you, your family, and your community.

This meeting is open to all in our neighborhood – when you RSVP, just list yourself as a “Stakeholder” with the Mid-City NC. We’d really like to have a strong MINC presence at this meeting. We hope you can join us.

Pershing Square Ice

LA’s Recreation and Parks Department celebrates the Winter Holidays with outdoor ice-skating at Pershing Square from November 14 through January 20 with a special Winter Holiday Festival on December 14 that features entertainment, crafts, a snow zone, puppet shows and, of course, ice skating.

For the more competitive but less skilled, the Pseudo Stanley Cup will be awarded to the championship Broomball team, open to groups of up to eight players who only need a decent pair of sneakers to play. Brooms, rubber ball, and hockey nets are supplies and the championship series pits teams in play during the evenings starting on January 7th with the finals on the 16th.

Pershing Square is located at 532 South Olive Street, LA 90013.

LA Live features the Kings Holiday Ice Rink which features a rink that is 132 feet by 80 feet plus loads of LED mini-lights (120,000) to illuminate your skating experience, all in close proximity to lots of great restaurants and the Staples Center. LA Live opens on November 30 and maintains the ice until New Years Eve.

LA Live is located at 800 West Olympic Boulevard, LA 90013

Woodland Hills celebrates its fifth winter on ice at the Westfield Promenade ice rink which is surrounded by pine trees, not palm trees, and features private ice skating lessons for those who want to hone their ice skating skills.

Woodland Hills Ice is open until February 17th, 2014, making it the longest running ice-skating opportunity in Los Angeles.

Woodland Hills Ice is located at 6100 Topanga Canyon Boulevard at Erwin Street, Woodland Hills 91367.

For those who favor their frozen water in the fluffy and flakey form, the City of Los Angeles also offers a one night 2013 Holiday Season Lighting Ceremony December 6th from 5 to 9 pm at the El Pueblo Monument – Placita Olvera.

El Pueblo de Los Angeles is hosting the free event which features a snow play area, Mariachi Divas de Cindy Shea, Mariachi Tesoro de San Fernando, and Ballet Folklorico Ollin. There will be refreshments and activities for the kids including holiday pinata breaking.

The 2013 Holiday Season Lighting Ceremony is located at 125 Paseo de la Plaza, LA 90012
