Pershing Square Ice

LA’s Recreation and Parks Department celebrates the Winter Holidays with outdoor ice-skating at Pershing Square from November 14 through January 20 with a special Winter Holiday Festival on December 14 that features entertainment, crafts, a snow zone, puppet shows and, of course, ice skating.

For the more competitive but less skilled, the Pseudo Stanley Cup will be awarded to the championship Broomball team, open to groups of up to eight players who only need a decent pair of sneakers to play. Brooms, rubber ball, and hockey nets are supplies and the championship series pits teams in play during the evenings starting on January 7th with the finals on the 16th.

Pershing Square is located at 532 South Olive Street, LA 90013.

LA Live features the Kings Holiday Ice Rink which features a rink that is 132 feet by 80 feet plus loads of LED mini-lights (120,000) to illuminate your skating experience, all in close proximity to lots of great restaurants and the Staples Center. LA Live opens on November 30 and maintains the ice until New Years Eve.

LA Live is located at 800 West Olympic Boulevard, LA 90013

Woodland Hills celebrates its fifth winter on ice at the Westfield Promenade ice rink which is surrounded by pine trees, not palm trees, and features private ice skating lessons for those who want to hone their ice skating skills.

Woodland Hills Ice is open until February 17th, 2014, making it the longest running ice-skating opportunity in Los Angeles.

Woodland Hills Ice is located at 6100 Topanga Canyon Boulevard at Erwin Street, Woodland Hills 91367.

For those who favor their frozen water in the fluffy and flakey form, the City of Los Angeles also offers a one night 2013 Holiday Season Lighting Ceremony December 6th from 5 to 9 pm at the El Pueblo Monument – Placita Olvera.

El Pueblo de Los Angeles is hosting the free event which features a snow play area, Mariachi Divas de Cindy Shea, Mariachi Tesoro de San Fernando, and Ballet Folklorico Ollin. There will be refreshments and activities for the kids including holiday pinata breaking.

The 2013 Holiday Season Lighting Ceremony is located at 125 Paseo de la Plaza, LA 90012

A Night At the Sports Museum 2 – 11/2

Each year the Wilshire Community Police Council (WCPC) has raised thousands of dollars for the Wilshire youth empowerment programs.

This year the need for money is even greater, as there are more than 200 boys and girls age 8 – 21 in our Cadet programs, making it one of the largest programs of its kind in the city. Funds raised allow these young people to have year round opportunities to reap the benefits of educational, cultural and police training activities, which they would otherwise not have.

Cadets receive valuable experience they will use for the rest of their lives. Since the program’s inception, Cadets (formerly know as Explorers), have gone on to join the ranks of the Los Angeles Police Department as well as various local, state and federal agencies. Many others have become professionals in education, law, transportation, medicine, financial services, communication and management.

From a former participant in the program:

‘I am part of the Wilshire Police Cadet program. When I was 14, I didn’t realize the harm my group of “friends” was causing me nor the amount of positive advantages the program had to offer me. It took me a long time to understand how much of my life I owe to the Cadets program and the people in it. I know that if my mother hadn’t struggled so hard to make me join, I would probably be affiliated with a gang, pregnant or even dead. I have so many people to thank.”

As a support arm of the LAPD Wilshire Division, WCPC is dedicated to providing officers with the latest in crime fighting technology not budgeted by the city, as well as overseeing events and activities bringing law enforcement and community together.

WCPC, a non-profit arm of the Los Angeles Police Department’s Wilshire Community Station, is excited to return to the Los Angeles Sports Museum for “A Night At The Sports Museum 2”. This event will be held on Saturday, November 2, 2013, and is a private one night only special event. Please consider becoming a sponsor supporting our very important Wilshire Community Youth Empowerment and Leadership programs.

The Los Angeles Sports Museum (www.sportsmusemla.com), owned by Gary Cypres, is a sports enthusiast’s dream. It houses the world’s largest collection of iconic sports memorabilia and collectibles, valued at more than 30 million dollars. See Babe Ruth’s 1934 uniform, Joe DiMaggio’s record-breaking ball from his legendary 56-game hitting streak, jerseys from NBA and NFL greats and the 1941 Heisman Trophy awarded to Minnesota’s Bruce Smith.

Dress in your favorite team attire and come ready to spend an incredible one-of-a-kind evening with us.“A Night at The Sports Museum 2” will be a fun filled evening with great food, a silent auction, surprise guests and great memories in sports history brought to life.
