FRACKING Meeting – 6:30PM Monday, Oct 15

******************************************************************************
Hello,

I have an important update for all concerned about FRACKING and the California environment.

PXP the oil company that wants to drill the Inglewood/Baldwin Hills oil fields “to death” -literally, has just released the results of a yearlong study that finds in their favor: http://www.inglewoodoilfield.com/res/docs/102012study/Hydraulic%20Fracturing%20Study%20Inglewood%20Field10102012.pdf

To add insult to injury today, on 10/10/12, the L.A. Times put out an article about the PXP study on “safe fracking.” The manipulated results of the PXP study, is no huge surprise! Their study claims that there is “no evidence of health risks nor seismic risks due to fracking.” We already know this to be untrue. There is already overwhelming evidence across this country that Fracking is dangerous to human health via the risk of poisonous gases being released from the fractured shale rock 600 feet or deeper underground, and from the use of irreversibly polluted metric tons of “oily/slick” water used to blast that rock open with no precautionary measures. The wasted water is then evaporated with 500 or more toxic chemicals.

There is currently a global water shortage and an ongoing shortage in California. Plus the Inglewood oil field is on a 7.0 seismic fault line. This is really about common sense, and refusing to buy into printed lies.

In the RESIDENTIAL area surrounding the Inglewood oil fields, there is current property damage to homes cracking from underground drilling, a school that cannot fix a reappearing sink hole, and a dog park that had to be closed due to oil and gas bubbling and oozing from the ground. There are already cancer clusters in some areas at the foot of those hills where there has been unregulated drilling since 1924! Along the natural Ballona Creek on Jefferson Ave, one can smell rotten eggs, a sign of hydrogen sulfide, a lethal gas: http://www.osha.gov/OshDoc/data_Hurricane_Facts/hydrogen_sulfide_fact.pdf

I have been working closely with FoodandWaterWatch.org:  http://www.foodandwaterwatch.org/water/fracking/fracking-action-center/ as well as with tireless volunteers who in 2008, founded Citizens Coalition for a Safe Community: https://sites.google.com/site/ccfascorg/home

Please mark your Calendar! On Monday 10/15/12 PXP will present their report to the public. They chose a Monday night at 6:30pm to ensure that few would show up. Our lives depend on people showing up. You may say “why is this important? I live far away.” Well if we allow them to frack Inglewood they will frack all of California. So please try to attend or send someone who can:
Hydraulic Fracturing Study
PXP Presentation
Monday, October 15, 2012
6:30 PM
Knox Presbyterian Church
5840 La Tijera Boulevard
Los Angeles, CA 90056

If you cannot attend, and would still like to help; Please donate to the Citizen’s Coalition For a Safe Community. They are working day and night on behalf of Culver City residents and in fact, for all of California. https://sites.google.com/site/ccfascorg/donate
Or mail donations to: Citizen’s Coalition for a Safe Community, 4209 Jackson Ave, Culver City, CA 90232-3235

We organizers are now relying on the laws that protect the rights of people to say “no” to environmental pollution in residential areas. This is a community, social justice issue.

I thank you for your help.
Sincerely,
Aura Walker
