Crenshaw Light Rail Community Workshop Meetings

A letter from MINC-PLUM Committee Chairman, Bruce Durbin:

MINC Board & Stakeholders —
The good news out of Washington, D.C. this week is that the federal loans for Phase 1 of Crenshaw Light Rail Transit (LRT) have been approved. This is part of the 30/10 plan that the Mayor’s office has been aggressively pursuing in order “fasttrack” L.A.’s mass transit plans in order to provide jobs and economic benefits today. Metro had originally expected that the Crenshaw LRT wouldn’t be built until sometime after 2016. Now, with the approval of these loans, the project could get off the ground as early as next year.
Phase 1 of the Crenshaw LRT will travel along the Crenshaw corridor from the Expo Line near Jefferson Blvd. to LAX. Eventually the line will proceed northward, but a specific route has yet to be determined for Phase 2-from Expo Line north to either the Purple line at Wilshire/Western or the Red Line in Hollywood. Metro has announced a new round of public meetings and you are encouraged to attend. If you are interested in or will be affected by this project NOW is the time to become involved. Don’t wait for the shovels to hit the ground or the rails to be installed to let your voice be heard–by then it will be too late to make signifant design changes.
Bruce Durbin, PLUM Chair
